A STATEMENT FROM THE ARTIST
Prior to the start of my spring term of studio art, I had hoped to create a series of sumi ink abstract paintings. Now looking back on the term, I have created sixteen pieces, of varying sizes and subjects. I have found that the most difficult aspect of this medium for me was the fact that it was limited color choice, thus the subtle addition of pastels in several of my pieces. My inspiration/motivation to continue with this medium throughout the term was my location, whether it be the outdoors or the studio, or exploring somewhere new and beautiful and interesting. I've found that regardless of the medium, being out in nature is definitely a hug inspiration to my creation of art. I absolutely enjoyed this quick yet thoughtful medium of sumi ink however I do prefer using lots of color in my work.
